Scott's Atlas / Craftsman 101.07403 12x36" Lathe, modifications and projects. Stone Mountain, GA Unique Visitors:

I use the lathe for light Milling. It works ok but is a pain. Now it makes me want a real milling machine.

Adapter to use 1/4" HSS bits with a rake angle.

Made from 13/16" 12L14 hex bar.

Made using milling attachment on 12x36 lathe.

I have also used the milling attachment to modify the Sherline cross slide on my 109 lathe. I cut 1/8" off most of the bottom to make it lower on the carriage.

 Here's the adapter i

nstalled in a QC toolholder.

Mill attachment in use. Was the first test with the regular chuck. Switched over to the collet adapter for smoother cutting..
Here is the piece shown being cut above. A bit of chatter. When I switched to the colllete chuck, it worked better.

Here is a carriage stop made from 1.25" 6063 aluminum.

Milled a slot about 1/2" deep and about 0.385 high (bed is 0.375).

Lower area milled to clear rack. Screws are 10-32 x 1".

The top had marks from the band saw so i milled it down slightly. The camera really exagerrated the grooves. It feels perfectly smooth but you can see the edge of each pass.

All milling was done with a 0.25" 4-flute end mill mounted in the ER-40 chuck..

This was a scrap piece I reused, so you can see it is a bit hollow. Does not effect how it works.
